One Dream Every Person Sees Days Before Death | Islamic Dream Signs

There is one specific dream that many people see just days before their death. According to a narration involving Hazrat Ali Ibn Abi Talib (RA), a man once came to him and asked a very serious question:

“O Ali, a close friend of mine recently passed away. Before his death, he used to say strange things that made it feel like he knew his death was near. Is it possible for someone to know—through dreams—that their death is approaching?”

 Hazrat Ali’s (RA) Spiritual Response

Hazrat Ali (RA) replied:

“O servant of Allah, remember that Allah has placed a spiritual system in the realm of souls (Aalam-e-Arwah) and heavenly knowledge (Aalam-e-Malakoot). Through this system, a person is warned in advance about upcoming calamities, illnesses, and even death—often through dreams.”

He explained that death is not the end—rather, it’s a transition from one life to another. And to prepare the soul, Allah sometimes shows inspirational (Ilhami) dreams that comfort and prepare the person.

What Kind of Dreams Come Before Death?

Hazrat Ali (RA) further shared that:

  • A person may dream that he is traveling with the dead.

  • He sees himself on a long journey with deceased people—often those he knew in real life.

  • The deceased are usually dressed in white clothing.

  • They might say things like:

“Your journey is almost over. You will soon join us.”

These dreams are often gentle but emotionally powerful.

How to Know If the Dream is Divine or Demonic?

The man then asked, “Ya Ali, how do we know if such a dream is a true divine dream or a satanic illusion?”

Hazrat Ali (RA) replied:

If It’s a Satanic (Shaitani) Dream:

  • You wake up shivering, terrified, and thirsty

  • Your heart races and you’re filled with panic

  • You feel disturbed, not peaceful

These are signs the dream was not divine but from Satan, meant to cause fear and anxiety.

If It’s an Ilhami (Divine) Dream:

  • You wake up feeling stronger spiritually

  • You’re motivated to repent, speak the truth, offer prayers, and recite the Qur’an

  • You feel a calm inner drive to walk on the straight path (Sirat al-Mustaqeem)

Hazrat Ali (RA) said:

“If the dream strengthens your faith and pushes you toward goodness, then be certain it is a true and divine dream. And yes, your departure from this world is near.”
